Windshield

First off, let me say this site is awesome. I spend nights just going over old post trying to educate myself. I have never done anything like this before. I'm along way from windshield installation, but I'm trying to get an idea of things that will need to be done. When you order a new windshield are the holes on the top already drilled? I have to make new wood pieces for top of the cabin and wanted to know if I need to be exact on the placement of the blind nuts under the front wood piece? There are only 4 blind nuts on it. There are about 15 screw holes on the top. When I took it apart it was all screwed down with screws across the top and the blind nuts were not being used. Are 4 screws with blind nuts enough or should there be more?

When I bought my winshield it was not drilled in anyway...

I had my windshield out last summer. It had 7 screws going through the aluminum strip, the plexiglass, and into the blind nuts. I am not sure where the 15 screws you mentioned are. But I would not depend on screws into the wood to hold the windshield in. I would install more blind nuts.

Ditto to what the other fellows have said. Just did mine. The wings were on and I believe that helps as you have another reference in fitting. Trimmed one half inch or so from the bottom of the window as to bring the top of windhield down to be the same height as top of wing. Still a little high but about as good as it will get. Clecos were very handy in fitting. Hard to do without I would think.

Thanks guys! Looks like when I make the new wood piece I will add a few more blind nuts. I will need to make a new aluminum strip for the top of the wind shield. The old piece of wood on the top is really rotten and to hold the windshield down someone added a bunch of screws.

I would suggest you use a strip of cork or silicone sheet between the windshield and fabric on top of the fuselage. Mine had globs of silicone squeezed out from a tube between the plexiglass and the fabric. The vibrations caused the plexiglas to rub the silicone off and wear into the fabric. I removed the windshield to add a fabric doubler. I also added a sheet of 3/16" cork sheet to use as a cushion.
