WHOAAA!!! I don't blame you. -40F is DARN COLD!! On the Learjet model 45 certification program, we did the testing with water saturated fuel in a cold chamber down to -40F to certify the airplane fuel system for use without anti-ice additive in the fuel. We also did a Northern Canada 3-day cold soak at -40F, then went though the AFM procedures to start up and go fly. At that temperature, we had several squawks to fix for certification. One had to do with fuel flow and fuel pumps. We had to bring the pumps back into the lab for further testing in a cold chamber. As a young engineer, I learned that they meant it when they said JET A Kerosene turns into a GEL at -40F.

By the way. Did you know.... -40F = -40C ?

Re: Cabin Heat Not Working - Not sure why

I get nervous about cold shocking the engine when pulling the power back, when the temp gets down to the single digits. You must have similar concerns...

            Was that your plane??
Also i do have the same set up as you. I have the cessna 150 set up it is set up a little diffent I have a y pipe and duel pa-18 heat boxes. i did have a leak in one of the shrouds and it made the airflow about half of what it is now after i fixed the leak. It wasn't leaking that bad eather. The bigest problem i had was keeping the moter up to temp in -0 weather. I have the middle hole in my nose bowl completely blocked off when it gets below 20 deg. The thing that helped the most is i mad a insulated sheild that felcro's from the back of the seat to the top tube so i only haft to heat the small cabin area works great.. without it all the warm air go's right out the baggage compartment and out the tail.......
I went to the cabin about a week ago was 18 below when i left willow warmed up in about 10 min to where i could take off my gloves and hat.
I do alot of real cold weather flying following the iditerod and the iron dog and just going to the cabin I do have the cold weather stuff figured out after 20+ years of bunny boots and snow gear.

I really liked your method of keeping the heat up front with the metalized blanket...could you share some more of your cold weather flying tips and tricks to stay warm in the plane

Re: Cabin Heat Not Working - Not sure why

Thanks for the responses. I plan to do some more troubleshooting this weekend and see if I can more warm air out of the cabin heat. It has warmed up to about 32F, I just hope we don't get any warmer or wetter. Lance, I will give you a call this weekend.

You guys don't spend a lot of time on the beach, do you? The sunny, warm kind not the frozen sandbar kind.
                  Cheers,
