  • Yerington,nevada ??????

I was wondering if anyone on the forums lives near or knows someone who is at or near Yerington,Nevada? I have a nice 1950 Cessna 170 with minor damage that I need to have picked up and I'm trying to find someone I can hire to professionally and carefully take it apart and help load it when it is picked up? Any help would be greatly helpful. You can contact me by phone or email. Thanks

    Kevin,
Due West from Yerington is Minden. There is a good sized airport there (like big) with sailplane operations and other stuff going on. If you could talk to someone at the Minden airport you might be able to get some help from them, or a reference to someone local.
It appears to be about the same distance from Minden as the crow flies as it is from Reno to Carson City, that is, not very far. I have been to Minden several times while in the area skiing and took time to get some soaring experience.

This may not help but it is the best I can offer. Approx. 20 yrs ago there was and maybe is a pre war taylorcraft owner who owned a gas staion in Yerington. Shell or Chevron if I recall correctly. He also owned a 170. You might try finding a phone number. The owner of the station that is not the one he owned was also a pilot so if you got the wrong station you might get some local information.

        Re: Yerington,nevada ??????

Back in 1997 my wife and I landed at Yerington on our way to Alaska with my, new to me, F-19 Taylorcraft. We had started out in Tuson, Az.. Flew to Kingman and got weathered in for 2 nights. Once started again we made Yerington the next flying day. It was a day of headwinds and lots of bumps having to divert to for fuel at least once. We landed about 5pm and when my wife got out of the plane, she stated that she had enough and wanted to take a bus into Reno and fly back to our home in Alaska on the big bird. I talked her into staying the night and flying to Reno the next day where she and I parked the plane at an FBO and flew back home. 1 month later I came back and picked the plane up and had a great trip to Alaska. In all it took 37.5 hrs to fly from Tuson to Anchorage.

That sounds like a good trip...did your wife come back with you to get it?

I believe I found someone to take the airplane apart for me. Thanks for the posts and help guys.
