Well, a comment was made about the true brick, in the registery thread, so I thought that I would throw in a few things that I remember about it. The brick was discovered in a tail section, it was fabric covered and doped in place. It appeared to be a regular red brick brick and some how it found it's way to Alliance where Forrest commented on the use of the bricks in the BC12 D models. This particular brick showed up down south where someone found to to be too heavy to be brick and they broke away the surface and it appeared to be gold. I don't know where it went from there but the next time it was reported it appeared to have the Taylorcraft name cast in the surface.

Shortly after that there were a couple of reports and questions about the brick and I have a feeling that they were really false claims by someone who wanted the fame of having the true brick. There are also a couple of pretenders wo claim to have found the true brick.

Someone out there must know the rest of the story.........well???

Oh, Oh, the saga of the Brick. I must check on this.

Edit: Well, that didn't go very far-- so where can I find out about this brick? I may want to get one myself.

      Re: brick

Okay-- hmm brick of gold-- now I have some experience with gold-(only ten time NC state champion for speed gold panning), now not knowing the actual size of that brick all I will say is that I also have several chunks of lead that were used to help balance out a race car and can testify that I lost more then 1 fingernail to them--you are looking at more then 40lbs-which at the conservative price of $1,600 an ounce would mean $768,000 (only 12 troy ounces per pound not 16), now $768,000 divided by $35,000 would equal 21.94 taylorcrafts--just a thought u guys. lol

        Re: brick

Well if there really was a Taylorcraft approved brick for the BC12-D. Does that mean all of you guys with the 12-D airplanes, without a brick, are flying one brick short of a full load? It would explain a lot. ;-) h

          Re: brick

Well, we sure as heck know it wasn't gold. Taylorcraft went under due to bankruptcy so any gold bricks that were out there were probably used to keep Taylorcraft solvent. Apparently there were also a bunch of BC-12's out there flying around nose-heavy way back when.

I also called dibs on that brick days ago...

            Re: brick

This has nothing to do with a "GOLD" brick but it is a funny TRUE story that I believe was told to me by Forrest several years ago. I guess it was about 12-14 years ago when I bought my first Smith Miniplane minus engine & prop. At the time I have a little bit of stearman & waco time and a little bit in a Pitts S2A but never a Smith. I had just started working on Crispy and I had been in touch with Forrest quite a bit(probably drove him half nuts) about advice on Crispy. Somehow we got on the subject of the Smith that was almost ready to fly and forrest said he had flown one a little bit. I ask him about the speeds, handling, and glide ratio, etc. When I mention the glide ratio he just laughed a little bit and asked me if I heard of the brick test. He told me to takeoff in the Smith and climb to 10,000'. Then while over the runway pick my touchdown spot and drop the brick while at the same time closing the throttle on the Smith and make damn sure I was wearing a helmet becasue the brick was probably going to hit me in the head when I landed, lol..... Nothing to do with the gold brick but I thought it was good brick story....then again, maybe that's what happened to the gold brick. Maybe forrest used it for the brick test and missed the runway, lol.

I flew a PiperColt and the brick would out glide me everytime! L

Maybe there is Gold in this one ; I will check Friday. I have attached front and rear pics ; plus a photo of the fellow that brought it to me from Florida . He received it from John Reagan at SNF a few years ago. This was all started on April 1st of that year.....

This is my first attempt at using the i-phone to take pictures to send out to the membership. We did a lot of mailing on Friday last and I ahve the photo stuff set up in back room. Many thanks to Brian Matz , Ryan Newell and Grand-Son Daniel ; now Patty & i are heading out to the Movies.... Happy Holiday ; I wil be abck on Friday for a bit.

Hey I think I saw an older version of that slick guy prowling around my house, result was a hit and run that left the whole block without power! Forrest is pretty good with that iphone. He has his texting lingo down already...

Ah Ryan , the inside jokes are great. Two other funerals this week, still too soft to go get the snow plow ; should be flying again tomorrow. Mark or Mike are out there in the Cub at the moment.
With a little more help I may conquer this i-phone. WHF it is only a new tool. LOL on the engine.
