  • Taylorcraft Hats

I just love the Taylorcraft shirts that I got from Connie Matthews for the three of us, which brings up a question, Can she sew just the Taylorcraft logo on hats? If not, are Taylorcraft hats available anywhere? I'm getting tired of posting photo's of me in or in front of a Taylorcraft while I'm wearing a Piper hat. Surely there HAS to be a source for Taylorcraft baseball hats SOMEWHERE. What would be even nicer would be the canvas "Aussie" hats like when we fly gliders. They are larger, so would be easier to sew on a machene, and they just look cool. It would be soooo cool to wear a Taylorcraft hat instead this Piper one.

Do we sent you the $8.00 per hat or how do we do it. What about shipping?

        Taylorcraft Hats

        Forrest,
I'll go ahead and order three red one's on the first . Give me an address to send the money order to. It will be so nice to get out from under this Piper hat, after reading about what Piper did to C.G. Taylor in Chet's book, I feel like I'm giving aid and comfort to the enemy. And that's coming from someone who used to have a Cherokee 140. If Dave or Connie is reading this, I would still buy some "aussie" hats with the logo stitchen on if you can do them.

Connie's machine doesn't do hats real well. Ben and I have them but that is about it. The shirts work well but you should hear the words when she is not happy with the quality....

Silk sceen or a $15k embroidery machine does a nice job on hats.

Anybody want to buy a case of blank hats? We have them from a failed experiment.

Sabrina, you mentioned my writing of the Taylor-Piper split. In hindsite, I think I was probably a bit hard on Piper. There were two sides to the story.

I would love to hear the other side. It must have been serious stuff when it happened. Is it published somewhere?

                Piper-Taylor spliy

I grinned from ear to eas when I read about Piper's chief engineers who used to work for Taylor just up and left one day to go work for Taylor knowing that he was nowhere near as finnancially stable as Piper. There has to be a good reason for THAT kind of loyalty. By the way Chet, your book is fantastic, please let me know if you ever write a book on the glory days of air racing.

                  How about Patches?

Hey Dave, Can Connie's machene do patches? They could be sewn onto Hats, jackets, flightsuits, allmost anything. They are flat, so Connie's machene should handle them. Let us all know what she thinks about this idea.

                    Chet's books

There is a more balanced story on the Taylor-Piper split on page 87 of my FIRST CUB book. I have copies of most of the relevent correspondence including a copy of the final agreement. At that point, Taylor and Piper were not speaking so they sent letters back and forth, sometimes several a day, using the same secretary!
Thanks for the compliment on the book. No, I try not to write on a subject which has already been covered. (There is only one Taylorcraft book, for instance.) But in my book THE HEATH STORY, there is extensive coverage of Ed Heath's air racing exploits, which were fantastic.

                            Sabrina,

She has looked into patches and made a few but it really isn't worth the time. They would have to be way too expensive for what you get unless she gets a honking commercial machine (costs more than N36078 did). She is looking into the Aussie/Bush hat idea but needs to find a bulk vendor.
