  • Now that was a long flight

Well, not a T-craft but it's cousin. Just sat in a Stinson 108-1 Voyager for 20 something hours on a flight from south of Atlanta to Seattle. The weather was great the whole way with unbelievable visibilities and hardly a cloud until we tried to go through the pass to get west of the mountains into Seattle. That was scuzzy but we made it through. Ground speeds averaged about 80 kts. (the T-craft would have been faster and had better range) So now I sit in the Seattle airport and listening for our flight departure which has been delayed four times already. Time for plan C?

If you took any pictures of your trip, I am sure others besides me would enjoy seeing them. Were you trying to go through Snoqualmie Pass? It doesn't take much weather to make it tough to go through. If you make that trip again, try going through the Columbia River Gorge just east of Portland and then going north up the valley on the west side of the Cascades.

Photos were taken but not my camera so I would have to get them. Yes, that pass that starts with the S is the one we went through. It was pretty inclement but we probed carefully and kept a back door. The Garmin 696 was pretty cool as we probably could have done the pass with the window painted with that unit. Note I said probably. I would never put my life in the hands of a single electronic box intentionally. The Delta flight back from Seattle today was an experience in patience as there were delays upon delays upon delays. I was just grateful to get home. We were in cloud quite a bit even at FL330 so the weather had changed a lot.

Anyone I know who owned or flew a Stinson 108 said they were like a baby Cadillac. Smooth in rough weather and nice to fly. Its amazing how cheap you can buy a nice one for! Good looking too! JC
