    Barnstormer, what a great shot. Do you have more of the complete aircraft?

      BC-65 photo

      Nice photo Terry, it's 08:40 on Sunday, and I've just had B'fast, and am waiting for my "starter" to finish waking up, and we are taking "Manu Sina" up.
      Too bad you had to replace your 6" tach, someone wrote on this site that the large tach was worth almost what the plane was. I doubt that, but I guess that they are pretty tough to find. Now THAT would be something for the factory to subcontract out, I bet they would up to their ears in orders real fast if they could find someone to build new repros of the original tachs.
      Well, time to go commit aviation.

          BC-65

          Terry;
          You are right, the early, (and very light) BC-65's were the best of the breed. May I repectfully suggest you should be getting near 100 MPH. The prop pitch might be the answer. Or has the old plane, like some old folks, added 100 pounds over the years?

            Early BC-65s

            I agree Chet, I'm STILL getting used to how slow mine will go, and still be perfectly happy flying. I have a bad habit of flying my downwind at 65-70, my base at 60-65, and then my final winds up at 60-70. I'm going to go out tomorow once we get rid of the rain and spend about an hour flying around at 50. THAT ought to break me of the habit. As far as the handeling goes, I was doing full power departure stalls in high bank turns, three each way, and I felt like I was waiting forever for the plane to "break". When it did, she tried to do a slow half snap, I dropped the nose while applying opposite rudder and aileron, and the plane recovered within 100 feet!! THIS PLANE IS A POOR PERSONS HELIO COURRIER!!!

              airspeeds

              Terry, as you have found out, if you don't slow the old T-Crafts down to 50 or under on final, you float half way to Texas. I even bring my DC-65, (which is not much of a floater) in a a little over 50, it makes the landing so much easier. They are all very gentle, the most gentle, the A Models. Chet

                Chet,
                As for approach speed...I use 60 in the pattern....50 over the fence. Hard slip helps to nail the end of the runway.

                As for gaining un-necessary pounds. I am embarrassed to say that I'm the one who's gained over the years....not the airplane.

                  Beautiful Plane

                  Terry,

                  If your panel looks that good I can only imagine what the rest looks like.
