  • Covering question

Can someone point me to an illustration of how to terminate reinforcing tape under perimeter tape without causing a lump? I'm covering tail feathers and am planning to use a full length of reinforcing tape under the stitching and can't visualize how to end the tape gracefully. mike

ah! I see Rob ran the reinforcing tape all the way to the edge, covered it with tape then with perimeter tape and didn't worry about the lump

    Re: Covering question

I can see my reinforcing tapes where they end, but the 1/32" approximate thickness doesn't make much of a "lump". Just cut the ends nice and square and even distances and cover with finishing tape; I don't believe you'll be offended by the appearance of the ends of the tape, and you really have to look to see them at all. I don't like the idea of running them extra distance to the leading and trailing edge perimeter tapes, I think they would show more and look worse there.

Hello Paul - I saw the error of my ways the moment I went down to look at my covering supplies. I had been visualizing something a bit thicker - Mike

Mike, use a pinking shear...it'll feather them ever so slightly, even on reinforcing tapes.... The other thing is that there are places, such as that and the area just fore and aft of a rib stitch or attachment such as that, where you don't need to stick the finishing tape so closely...rather you will want to "fare" them in, using the tape.
