  • paint color ideas?

Hi folks. I am going to paint my T craft in the near future with polyurethane. My wife suggested a hotter color( orange or red) and my mechanic reccomended going with a standard color... perhaps orange as it covers other colors well. He said he would avoid a custom mix as it is harder to match when repairing or spot painting. The colors I have now are a faded, oxidized cruiser orange and lemon yellow.

I saw Marty Towsley,s avatar of his airplane and that color or similar is the direction I am leaning. Aeronca 7AC orange is pretty nice also. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

You could always buy extra paint & save for repirs.

WHO are you painting the airplane for?

Is it you, your wife or a future purchaser?

You may consider taking & pic & coloring it or photo-shopping.

      Hi Jim,

My plane is done in Aerothane, Christen Eagle Red. I have uploaded this pictures so you can see it a little better. As you probably know, click on it and then again and you can see it in a larger format. I get a lot of comments on how pretty it is, as well as how easy it is to see in the air.

I am painting a solid color with some black striping, maybe the traditional diamond with the stripes trailing from it..?

I may keep the plane and I may not but color and paint scheme is a factor in resale value. I want to keep it simple...one color.

I try to have a "rubber neck" when flying as I know just how real the danger of a mid-air collision is. Hot colors are striking and stand out, giving some advantage in seeing and being seen.

Thanks for the input so far fellas.

            Jim,

Another perspective on color and air-to-air visibility ... dark colors (red, dark orange, etc.) may not actually show up well against the typical mountain background that is so common here in Alaska (except maybe in winter). If you do most of your flying in the summer months and are wanting to be most visible, you might consider a light or white main color. I just finished my rebuild and went with a Daytona White base color and a metallic sadle-brown trim. I've been told, by other pilots I've flown around with, that the Daytona White really stands out well against either a mountain backdrop or over the water.

As others have said ... pick what works for you. I did a lot of on-line picture surfing to come up with colors and a paint scheme that I liked. Have fun!

Lo-tech method is to paint the aircraft with color of choice & paint paper or plastic strips for trim.

Hard to move once it's painted for real.

I Like that idea when experimenting with striping.
