  • Hydraulic Brakes from Grove!!!

Grove makes axle adapters and end caps for the bloody tapered axles. They also have a kit for the wheels, torque plates etc... The only figuring will be the master cyls. I'm going with Cessna style pedals. I'm welding a bar across the tubes in front of the rudder bars for the master cyls to anchor and pivot on. I'll take some pics and post.

The kit for the wheels and adapters was right around $900. The Grove master cyls are $175 each and some used pedals are about $100. So, right around $1500 will get rid of the Shinns and into the less antiquated technology of hydraulics.

Thanks to Chuck Avon for posting his 337!!!!

It's great that Grove is producing the parts. Unfortunately as of June 10, 2011 the FAA has amdended Order 8900.1, the Fight Standards directive aviation safety inspectors use for policy. Per Volume 4, Chapter 9, Section 1. figure 4-68: changes to landing gear and related components.......brake and brake systems, or additions require an STC. In terms we understand: our local FAA FSDO folks can no longer issue a field approval for changes in brake systems. You now have to obtain an STC.

Oh Garry..... the one thing that policies and regs never take into consideration is good ol' human networking: make a phone call, take somebody lunch. You can still (for the moment) get things done in America. The lawyers haven't completely policied us into a corner yet.
