Re: Engine cut-out on takeoff - suggestions
It sounds to me like you have a fuel supply issue. One way to check to see if it is attitude related or a time thing is to keep it on the step for longer than your normal take off period. ie, if your water run is usually 25 seconds and then you start changing attitudes to get it off the water, try keeping it on the step at full power for twice that and see if it still loses power. If you have a fuel supply problem due to vapor lock, it would likely use up the fuel in the bowl and result in power loss regardless of aircraft attitude.
Is this problem consistent? ie, if you attempt a take off and lose power. After you set it back down, if you attempt another take off will it do it again? If it does it consistently, you should be able to try various combinations to to narrow down the possibilities.
Take a good look at your mag wiring. (the P-leads, not the plug wires) Because there could be a correlation there.
There have been a number of good posts regarding the potential issues that may cause this but it just sounds to me like it is running out of gas. Now, why?
If the fuel in the header tank is low, it could still be a vapor issue as the head pressure will be lower, so "unporting" isn't the only possible reason for a lower fuel level being related to a fuel supply issue. this could be resolved by getting the plane in the situation where it acts up. Now add some fuel. If the problem goes away and all other factors remain the same then you just eliminated a large number of possibilities on the list. If the problem stays the same, then you have also eliminated at least one item (unporting) from the list.
Keep plugging away at it (in a safe manner) and you will get it figured out.
I assume you already cleaned the screen in the carb. If not, do it.
