in an ideal world i would jump online pull up a map of where i planned on flying and find a montage of areas that we could land off airport with a bit of a description from other pilots. friendly farmers and state land etc would be marked.

since this is not the ideal world yet im looking for a place to put down on the south side of eufaula lake oklahoma if you know of any friendly farmers or old strips please guide me in

    Re: grass strip locator

I have found google earth to be a good source for grass strips in places that don't show up anywhere else. Just turn on airports in the transportation area and then look where you want to go. Works for me and will give you some info on what is there. Looks like a nice place called Arrowhead just north of the lake a 1/2 mile or so there are also some places on the south side as well.

Does it tell if they are private airfields?

That is a good thing to know.

The airfield that I use is a private grass strip and the owners do not want other airplanes landing at it (I don't own it).

Sectional maps mark it private but I wonder if Google does.

If you use Google alone it may be possible to think it is a place that you can land when in fact it is not.

It will tell you the name of the strip, you can then do a google search for the name and state which will usually give you the identifier. Now you can find small unknown strips for sure and do some calling and find out about them but a lot of grass strips have an Identifer so you can then look up that airport and find out about it. Also can use google earth ruler and find out the distance it is from you or somewhere else you might want to go. I actually use it a lot to see what the airports actually look like from the air.
