well if we are serious about proving the corrosion protection run down the alloys most common with our props. this months batch of process control test panels will be going in the salt spray cabinet next tuesday. Ill polish some up then i can either run some clear chem film (alodine) or anodize. these are performed per 5541 or 8625. what is the method of anodize suggested sulfuric, chromic etc.

anyway the offer is out there give me the recipe. the salt spray cabinet and test materials are all certed and we can work towards a safe polished look.

Re: N95598 gets a new prop (reconditioned like new)

When I discovered my BL-12 took the entire downwind to climb to pattern altitude and I found dry rot spots all through the nearly-new wood prop I decided something had to be done. So, on an instructor's hint I bought a second-hand Sensenich metal one through the Barnstormers site for some $1500. I have all the paperwork and correspondence.

The same Kissimee, FL shop that overhauled it for the previous owner also took it in and customized it for me, including stripping, re-pitching, tipping and balancing. They refused my choice of tip color (1941 Orange-Yellow widely used in that period) in lieu of a "Safety Yellow" they said was required. (-Paler, less visible, but somehow the only legal color...)

The signed maint. form in the log states the shop "...ground blades, painted propeller with gray and black polane..."

The back (rear face) is covered in a flat black paint and the front is NOT gray at all, but shiny metal polished like a mirror! Well, almost, as that was several years ago and despite being in the custom-made blade covers that came with the plane it's showing a slight dulling of the surface. But just a tinge. Sensenich recommends regular maintenance by rubbing it with an oily rag to deter corrosion. But it's been off the plane too long to do that as often as I maybe should.

Total shop re-work was $400. I added the labels per agreement then it was checked, installed & tracked by the maint. shop. And flown. An IA's signed inspection report states that it was "...found to be in airworthy condition".

On a cool day with no one else aboard it climbed like a Cub! To me it was Mission Accomplished. You get what you pay for.

And the log entry says it was indeed painted in accordance with required material specifications so all I have to do is keep it from corroding. Sounds easy enough to me.

You have a real nice looking McCauley 1A90 MC 7443 there Terry. I am pretty sure I need one too. I have a McCauley 1A90 MC 7443 as well, but it only measures 71 inches. I think I might have a problem that your STC may provide the solution to, for the Taylorcraft BC12D we just purchased. I will leave a PM for you with the details on the CAP website.
