  • Any new T-Crafts LSA legal?

I have a friend who is in his late seventies who is afraid that just by virtue of his age there is a chance that he might fail his next medical. He has been flying for thirty some odd years now, and thinks it would be safer if he just let his medical expire and go fly an LSA. Problem is, he HATES composites, (calls them plastic planes), and hates anything that is not a Lycoming or Continental even more.
He asked me to go on the web and find out if the new ones are LSA legal, if they are, he will buy one cash.
The reason that I asked you guys is that I hear that the factory is not all that prompt about answering E-mails. Sabrina

    Sabrina,
Gross weight alone would exclude the new Tcraft. Current gross weight is 1750lbs, well in excess of the LSA limit.

      LSA legal Taylorcrafts

O.K., thanks. He swears he will just fly his 172 without a medical before he flies one of those " cheep overseas plastic toys with wind-up motors". That's probably what the aviation industry needs more than another new kerosene burner, an American built, American powered, tube and rag LSA. Fat chance of that happening. Thanks for filling me in guys. Sabrina

Won't he fly a BC12, L2, Cub, Champ or any of the other aircraft that qualify for the LSA category?

NEW LSA T-craft - Harry Ingram

          Sabrina,
At the Fly-in/Factory Tour in LaGrange this spring, Harry Ingram stated that they have been considering bringing back the BC-12D into production to meet the LSA demand. He stated that the Type certificate for the BC-12D is in active status and that their production certificate would cover all prior models. There was quite a discussion about this with much interest from those in attendance. The biggest hurdle at this time in making this happen is in securing the right certified engine. A65's are long out of production...O-200's are the closest thing there is. Harry has had talks with Teledyne Continental about supplying new O-200 engines, but he found that they would be priced way out of line for the LSA market due to TCM's liability pricing. If your friend is genuinely interested in this...I recommend having him contact Harry Ingram at the factory. It is not out of the realm of possibility for them to strike a deal. You never know.

            Talorcraft LSA

I'll do that tomorow, he's the guy who owns the West Texas Airport, and recently paid cash for a restored 235H.P. navion. He hardly flies the thing, much rather flying his restored early 172, or the Ercoupe that he stuffed an O-200 into. He wants a new american built plane with a four stroke motor, and has been bugging me about asking you guys about this ever since I started flying my Taylorcraft. If I ever took him up for a ride in it, he would be hooked for life. Sabrina

              Taylorcraft BC12SP

Yes, Harry is talking to Continental this week. The name may be changed, but an LSA is in the works.......BC12LS Retro or whatever. Basically a BC12D, with O-200 and hydraulic brakes and a few other goodies. KISS will reign here!

Great news for our T-Crafts last Tuesday!

Visit booth #48 at Oshkosh to see the new F22 this week!!!!
