  • Beach Landing

Steve Long and I flew down to Valdez for the annual May Days Air Show. This year we participated in a 'Poker Run' that included a beach landing on Hinchinbrook Island about 65 miles south of Valdez. I didn't get the final count of aircraft on the beach, but it was probably somewhere between 70 and 90. I was fortunate to have a passenger along to operate the camera, so here is a video of the approach and landing on the beach. If you look to the left toward the end of the clip you will see some of the first aircraft that arrived at the beach.

I had 8.50 x 6's on it when we did the beach landing. I now have 26" Bushwheels. There was a guy in a Mustang II that landed on 6.00's...the beach was nice and hard if you stayed down by the water line.
