Ok gang I have guy on my airport about to upgrade his 172 to a 180hp. His current 150 has been extreamly well cared for. I will buy it and use it for the Clip project. Is a mount available for this engine? The Swick plans have the drawings for them so its not that much of a guess. I have heard enough to determine more power (yes I know extra sigh weight ) More power overcomes the weight in spades IMHO

Re: 150 Lyc on Clip
I do not think you want the F22 mount. I built mine for my conical mount O-320, a dyanfocal is even easier as you can buy the mount ring. Let me know if you want one- I can get it done easilly.Eric Minnis

Re: 150 Lyc on Clip
Eric how were you coming out on weight and Balance with the )-320> Did you need to put the Battery Back of seat or how about no Battery no balast better yet. Bob Barrows who designed the BearHawk HAS NO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM in his own plane. I think he has a 160 hp Thoughts. It seems like I might be able to keep the weight down in the Low 900 like 920 or930 range (fingers Crossed) there is a fellow in Texas that was featured in Sport Aerobatics a few years ago that did that (930)

Re: 150 Lyc on Clip
875-900 is possible with a light covering job and no electrical. If you have a pre-war and use the old style ribs, no door formers, single door, etc than you can get them really close to 800. Add a battery and a starter and you are back up t o 930 or more. I have heard of several people claiming 850 pound lycoming powered airplanes with full electrical. My experience is that they are 120 pounds or more off.
Remember- without a starter you can get rid of the ring gear too! I have no issues hand propping a 320. Especially one with slick mags and a good impulse coupling.
My battery was located behind the seat- I used a little odyssey 650- same one is in my Pitts. If I were building another I would leave off all the electrical.
I have a clipwing cub in my shop now. I am building a set of my wings for it and will use the 23012 taylorcraft airfoil. We will be hanging a hopped up O-320 on it as well and are shooting for less than 775 pounds. Even the color we choose has a bearing on weight. We are doing silver with black trim. Why silver? One top coat of poly tone over the poly spray yields a really light covering job. We will end up with a LSA legal clipwing capable of being competitive in intermediate level aerobatics.
I know the Cubs have been fitted with Tcraft wings in the past. This one should be a real screamer with my wings on it. 30% hinged ailerons and pushrods throughout. In my experience the cub fuselage is much lighter than a Tcraft fuselage. My only issue is that the Tcraft has better looking lines.Eric Minnis
