  • Wing covers

After doing all the work to my plane last summer,I am thinking about getting some wing covers to help from the possible Hail storm that comes with summer thundershowers.Has anybody used them and would you think it was helpfull. I know they dont cover the rest of the plane, but Ill come up with something for that.

I used the ones that were a black net like material had a spooler built in during the NY winters.

They pevent the plane from blowing over (spoilers) and they helped the frost/ice/snow melt off quickly.

Never used any in the summer.

I typically don't have them on in the summer when on floats...but I put them on when I know of an impending possible hail storm. Saved me once...the energy from the hail is dissipated. I ended up with 2 dents in my cowl but no other damage

I guess you could build a floating hanger. It may not cost much more than the covers if you do your own work. Marv

Most Lakes have a restriction on building distance from the water....on my lake, you must be a minimum of 75' from the edge of the water....there is no way you'll get permission to build a hangar right on the shoreline or floating in the water on most lakes. I think you would have a hard time securing a floating hangar. Wing and tail covers cost about $300 or $400.
