Antique Airplane Association
Blakesburg 2004
September 2-6, 2004
I would like to encourage everyone with a Taylorcraft to fly to Blakesburg, Iowa this Labor Day weekend to attend the annual AAA fly in. This year’s show will be of special interest to Tayloraft owners.
In past years there has been a featured airplane for the show, giving emphasis to a particular type and its history. This year will break tradition by honoring two individuals who played a major role during the early years of aviation. Most of you are aware of the book by Richard Bach, “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”, but may not be aware that this is loosely framed around the life of John Livingston. John and his brother Adan or “Bite” Livingston were very active in aviation with John setting many records and winning some of the early races. Together, they were the largest Taylorcraft dealership west of the Mississippi river, located in Waterloo, Iowa. Taylorcraft’s and Waco’s will be featured and given prominent parking space at the show. Bite’s Taylorcraft will be there, and was purchased by him from Elmer Marting in the 70’s. Elmer has an interesting story to relate about this sale!
Although joining AAA will be encouraged and can be accommodated upon arrival, we would like to encourage as many Taylorcrafts to come for the show as possible. Therefore, as a Taylorcraft Type Club member, it will be possible to waive the annual membership fee for this show and attend as a “guest” of another Taylorcraft member who is also a AAA member. Admission and Camping fees will still apply.
