News flash for the Tribe.
Read 21.303 carefully. It does NOT say owners can produce anything.
All it says is that PMA requirements don't apply to owner produced parts!!!
So, you ask, what do we do????
Read 21.305.
Part 21 is all manufacturing,certification, and alteration.
It really doesn't address much about maintenance.
What we do as mechanics is REPAIR stuff, or alter stuff.
If that aileron has a bad spar, REPAIR it by fabricating a replcement spar
I.A.W. AC 43.13-1b and forget all this part 21 nonsense.
You didn't manufacture an aileron, you just repaired it under part43.
