Tailwheel Training

Hi,

I have been trying to get my tailwheel signoff for a long time now. My problem is I am 6-6 275lbs. I have been told that a Taylorcraft would be the best for me to do the training in due to the flexible fuel loading.

The reason I need to get my tailwheel is I have a Piper Cub in my family and naturally I would like to fly that instead of renting from the FBO.

Taylorcraft could work your height is the problem there you would have to remove the cushions . I am 6-2 and have to get small to instruct in her now. How about a Citabria or Decathalon ?? Check around your local area. How about the Cub itself with you in the back & a small instructor up front.... keep in touch we may have a Decatalon here soon.... You & I in my 65 HP Tcraft would be stretching it a bit.....

The insurance we have on the Cub requires me to have my sign off and at least 5 hours in a tailwheel before I can even begin my "transition" training in the cub. There are several tailwheels around this area, one of which is a Decathalon, and I get the same story from all of them (weight & height).

I think my best chance would be to find a Cessna 180 or 172 Taildragger.
