  • AOPA Pilot August 1979

Forrest Barber, a 36-year-old, part-time test pilot for Taylorcraft Aviation, pushed another log into the wood stove that warmed his office and fought off the early morning chill in Alliance, Ohio. Outside, three new Taylorcraft Sportman F-19's were parked in the grass and glistened in the rain, while waiting for their owners to fly them away fom Barber Airport, (elev. 1,062 feet). Coffee cup in hand, Barber, who owns the airport, settled into a chair, eager to share his recollections of Taylorcraft......

This is the first paragraph of a magazine article written by Roger Rozelle titled, Taylorcraft, The Basic Taildragger Lives! This also includes pictures of the airplane at Barber Airport and an air-to-air shot on the cover with what appears to be Forrest flying the bright yellow F-19. What a blast from the past, just picked this up off of Ebay and was delivered today. There is another article on T-Crafts farther into the magazine. I had just graduated high school two months before.....
    Cheers,
    Marty

About 2 years prior to that, and as one of 7 guys looking at the Super Cub, Taylorcraft, and Citabria to start a flying club, I took a demo ride with Forrest in the F19. We chose the Citabria since it was certificated for aerobatics, but it was made apparent with the F19 demo that the Tcraft was also somewhat capable in that regard.

Damn , I can't be THAT old , yes I have copies of most of those magazine articles , there are many side stories....... There were about 7 good articles; I flew with a bunch of them .
"Deep in the grimy Heart of Industrial American lies a small non-descipt town , Alliance, Ohio , home to the Taylorcraft" Mrs. Feris almost popped gasket after that one.
Marty , High School?? Holy Shit! now soon to be a retired C.O.P. ....
thanks for the offer of tracing assist , I got my old gang interested back here and have done most of it so far.
