  • Nicopress or Cable Swage end?

I am in the process of rebuilding my 1/8" control cables. I have two options:

    OPTION #1
Use Nicopress and Turnbuckles AN130-16S and AN140-16S. This seems to be what was used in 1946 when my Tcraft was built.

    OPTION #2
Use CABLE SWAGE END MS21260 which have a 1/4-28 thread and require larger turnbuckles AN130-22S and AN140-22S. This solution seems more elegant.

    Any recommendation?

    Thank You

One concern is having the tools or machine on hand if YOU are doing the assy.

Swaging equipment is usually quite pricey.

One big advantage to NicoPress is that you can thread the new cable through

pulleys & fairleads;secure with cable clamps & crimp right on the aircraft.

Could be a LOT less work.

Do you have access to the proper tools for the CABLE SWAGE END MS21260?

I think that in some places the swaged end may not fit.

I would go with nico press sleeves.

In either fabrication of cables, one is required to complete a 60% load test before installation in the aircraft (ie pull test through the fittings of 1200#) note this requirement in AC43.13, and most original drawings too.

One is well advised to buy FAAPMA cables that must go through this testing.

Might be hard to find faa pma cables.

You can rig up a simple test rig though.
