  • Alaska Check-in

This has been some kind of fall. Crazy wx.
Been working on a cabin across Cook Inlet. Jim Hartley knows where it's at. Hope to have it useable next year...would be fun to have a Tribe Get-to-gether. One of my 4 boys and I spent 5 days working on re-assembling the structure. Rigged a pulley on a cable between 2 trees and used a block and tackle to "fly" the trusses into place...poor man's helicopter! Will have to wait for good ice and ski wx, then work on it some more. It was snowing on the plane when we left the lake on floats. The good wx turned nasty before we accomplished everything we hoped to do, but it was a good start. There was a skim of ice building on the edges of the lake when we got home...cutting it pretty close. The plane is setting on the float trailer in about a foot of snow. These pixs are indicative of the area. The snowy lake shows the boys, last winter, using a plane to tow a boat loaded with disassembled cabin structure. The 10,000 ft.+ volcano in the background is Mt. Redoubt. The plane on floats shows the wx we had for 4 of the 5 days...the cloudy pix shows what we were running from. The plastic jar with the flagging shows the nastiest mess of old cheeseballs you have ever tasted...! One of our good buddies dropped them to us...what a guy! Saved us from starving...! The cabin is nothing fancy, but its setting is pretty nice. Dick

      Good pictures Dick!

The picture with the young fellow on the spruce near the break at the top... Is this the tree, whose top took out the roof of the cabin at the original location? It looks like it if memory serves me right? The setting there is nice...Fish in the lake also...?

I am looking forward to ski flying...hopefully this year will have more accommodating weather. I have quite a bit of vacation time and would like to pitch in with your cabin project if you could use a hand?

I sold my floats to one of our forum members...Jeff in Bethel. I suspect that he will have as much fun with them as I have had. If I had my own lake front remote property I would not have sold them. Wheels suit my mission at this time.

      The cheese ball thing! Ewww.....!

      Regards. Jim

        Dick, and Jim
Glad to see you guy's are still on here.....
Where is your cabin at it looks familar or should i say the lake dose. i spent three days at drift river this fall.
seen some monster bulls from the air there. We was there the last three days of the season. We got dropped off buy the bute but it was so foggy we couldn't see fifty yards away all the time we was there. Good moose there now.
Boy has it changed since the valcano went off and the river flooded. I seen no water in drift where did it go. The flood washed mud all the way to the beach I seen airplane tracks everywhere, where the mud set up and got hard. You could ride a four wheeler all the way to the glaciar from the beach.....
I had a great time at the tent camp i had on the kustatan river this year.
I had alot of people and the fishing was great.
Let me know when you start working on your cabin maybe we can all get together.
Jim someone told me you sold your plane. Must of just been your floats.
Ive got a set of 26 inch goodyears i want to sell they only have a hand full of take off and landings on them I am going to 29 inch bushwheels.
