  • Taylorcraft N 39160 expiration of registration

This used to be my T-Craft and I sold it in 1977 and last week I get a letter
from the FAA that airplane N 39160 serial# 6439 registration will expire in March 2011. I was flying the last time I heard about (something like 20 yrs.ago) . I will assume it is in a non flying status now or even wrecked perhaps. The thing that bugs me is why it is registered in my name still. I know the guy I sold the plane too never sent the paperwork evidently.

    @ reasons "Why".

    1. Avoid Sales Tax.

    Common thing to do.

    2. If the aircraft is registered to you it could have legal implications

in the event of an accident.

There was a situation like this involving oil hose failure on a Cherokee.

After selling an aircraft YOU should de-register it.

Checking status later is a good idea.

I have owned eleven airplanes and never had any issues before. I was a 21 year old punk kid when I sold this airplane 33 years ago. Ahhh yes legal issues ! I thought about that too. I will go ahead and de-register the airplane
with the paperwork the FAA sent me. If it is still flying they can deal with the
      paper mess.

Actually , you send in the registration form yourself when you sell the aircraft to another party , that is indicated on the back of the form that you sign and send to FAA Aircraft Registry.
Usually I do it in front of the buyer & the seller and put all forms into one envelope with the $5.00 fee and drop it into the mail box; then the pink form is good to go!

Have you been receiving the trienniel registration postcards all these years?

Also, you can go to the faa.gov website and see whose name the plane is registered in. If it's your name, go get it... lol
