  • Trim striping for BC-12D

Can anyone provide the style, dimensions and positioning of the trim striping that would have been original on a 1946 BC-12D? I am looking at one that will need trim added, and I would like to get it as near to original as possible. Early day photos of the side views would help.

    Dale,

Not sure exactly what you are referring to...are you talking about the stainless steel auto-type trim on the cowl in the picture at the top of this web page? If so, that is exclusive to BC/F/L 12-65 Deluxe airplanes built in '41 (and VERY few in '42/'45). NO '46 BC12-D ever had that trim originally, it is VERY hard to find and VERY expensive if you DO find any pieces, unless someone doesn't know what they have. If you are looking at a true '46 BC12-D with stainless cowl trim, it has been refitted with a '41 Deluxe cowl, or it might be an airplane built from a collection of various parts, not uncommon. What is the serial and N number on the one you are looking at? That would help a lot to figure out what you have.

      Dale,

If you go to my flicker page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/richard...7618364562241/ you will see pics of the Taylorcraft that were at the annual fly in. There is even an example of one with the crome trim on the cowl. Mine is the white one with a red stripe. I think it is very close to what the original factory paint scheme was. There are also some two tone examples.

The fellow who rebuilt my Taylorcraft followed pictures of the 1946 Deluxe version to the letter. (I have the original picture of it.) It looks exactly like the picture. A picture of mine can be seen on aircraft for sale. JC

          Jim,

I am not sure which TCraft for sale is yours, perhaps N43415?? I would like to get the layout and dimensions of the original stripe if at all possible. You mentioned having an original phtograph. Perhaps a copy of that could be scaled in order to get as near to original as possible. I can be contacted at: [email protected]

          Thanks,

Dale.....am sending you photos of N43338 to your email address. Aircraft is red-orange and creme which is rebuilders own choice. The paint scheme is EXACTLY like the '46 Deluxe. Regards, Jim.
