Looking for some advice on purchasing a portable intercomm.

I use a JHP-500 handheld radio, with a David Clark H10-56 and a David Clark H10-30 for the passenger.

I tried a softcomm ATC-2...works fine during idle, but as soon as I give power, there is much static and noise. I can't squelch/gain it out. Is the softcomm unit just a pos?

    Anybody have any recommendations, suggestions?

I use Soft-Comm with matched David Clarks.. works fine.
Try it without the radio plugged into the system. Just a guess but I imagine the radio does not have enough noise rejection capibility......

I've used a SoftComm portable for years. If I complained about it I'd be selling it short. That said, a friend got one of the PS Engineering Aerocom III portables. This baby has the same vox circuit as their top-of-the-line audio panel/entertainment center. And it really rocks. No squelch knobs to fuss with. Works really well. Even in an open cockpit. If you're looking for a new unit this is definitely the one to get.

I'm waiting for a small, cheap panel mount with the same circuitry. The PM1200 does but it's pretty pricy, $470 vs. $189 for the portable. I see they have a new "HyperVox" model, but don't have the specs on it.
