Re: Need to contact Joe Dreyer

I am getting by. I had a good therapy session in my Taylorcraft on Wednesday. I flew around to all the little grass stips in the area, including one in a friends back yard.

Tomorrow is the pancake breakfast at the EAA chapter at Twin Oaks where Dick VanGrunsven has his flock whipping out RV's faster than a Chinese sweat shop. It is always a good feed and plenty of airplanes to look at, especially if you like RVs.

It was the first real flying I have done since an extensive annual, which included a trip to the tailpost via the INSIDE of the fuselage. Seems the IA found a small hole in the handle welded onto the lower longeron and wanted to get an upclose look at the longerons to make sure they weren't in the same shape as the handle. Who ever did my fuselage before the last recover did a really good job. Both longerons looked like new. I don't ever want to have to crawl back there again.

The annual crossed over into the "extensive" catagory when I had to remove the engine so I could get the exhaust system off to weld up a couple of tiny leaks. I chased them around the pipe a couple of times while it was all still hooked up. But I finally had to admit defeat and take the whole thing off. Even with the exhaust sitting on the floor of my garage, it was still hard to weld up because the walls were paper thin. I ended up putting a big ugly patch over the whole area where it was very thin.

I have decided I need to put a different exhaust on before next year. I have a new or rebuilt exhaust system for my other plane, but I can't see putting it on. I want to fabricate a stainless exhaust that basically copies the Luscombe 8E system. I know you can buy them, but they are too expensive for me. So I will just get some tubing and make my own.

Anyway, I am happy now because I can fly again.
