  • Interconnecting tubing?

I've got a cluster I cut out of the plane and applied air pressure to the longeron. The pressure held, indicating there were no interconnecting holes between the longeron and the other members making up the cluster.

when I rebuild this cluster, should I drill holes so oil can pass? - Mike

Maybe that is why you are replacing that cluster.

      I wouldn't do it.

Just treat each tube individually with linseed oil or tube seal.

So every tube should have a small hole in it somewhere?

          yes,

possible 2 if you fill and drain

one if you inject the appropiate amount of oil and then rotate the frame every day to make it spread.

Mike you may already have holes in your tubing, but may be plugged. I cannot remember what they are called, but they had regular steel nails for that. Marv

                Would PK screws work?

Mike i do not know if they would be legal or not ,but they should work. I am sure the regular nails or drivepins would not cost much. Someone on the forum should be able to tell you the correct name and where to buy them. Maybe Forrest. Marv

Yep, weld 'em closed. But some use drive screws. PK's wont work...they leak.

                          Re: Interconnecting tubing?

This interconnecting tubing thing is black magic from the past. IF it was being built as a seaplane ie BCS , BCS-65, BCS-12-65 , BCS-12D , etc...
AT the factory the welders "popped" a hole with the torch into each area where the intersecting tube came into the cluster. The whole fuselage was filled , drained and then PK paralkalon (sp) "drive screws" were driven into the holes that had to be filled other than down the tail post, You can use hot linseed oil and feel the tubes for temperature rise if they are getting oil.
and YES the hole inside the strut attach fitting cluster was left open .
I have a whole jar full of drive screws, will locate this week. The crew is cleaning out the barn and old grainery as I type this reply. We ahve folks going to WACO, Lock Haven ; and numerous other palces. Many Foundation guys & girls have been stopping in this week & last.
