I have a small sheet of coated asbestos between the gascolator and the heat exchanger/exhaust. It came with the plane. Yes, I try not to make any dust with it, chuckle.
It is really close there so I mounted a thermocouple on the gascolator, next to the exhaust, for a test, and it never exceeded 100F, tested in the summer. Suspect it is due to the cooler fuel flowing through.
I agree with Hank and Bill about stacking the deck when it comes to safety.
