Taylorcraft Fly-In May 28-30th

The annual Taylorcraft Fly-In that used to be held in Columbia, CA will be held this year at a private grass strip that is NOT on any charts.

The official dates of the Fly-In are Memorial Day weekend, May 28th -30th, but all are welcome to come early and stay later. You can camp in your own tent under a wing, or there will be transportation to local hotels.

The private strip, not on any sectionals, is located south of Turlock, CA, which is just SE of Modesto, CA. For details on finding the strip, and arrival procedures,

He will email you a full page of details regarding location, obstructions, frequency, etc. Plans are already in place for a BBQ feed Saturday evening, and a Sunday morning fly-out for breakfast.

Will they allow the unwashed masses, flying low-intellect nosewheel airplanes covered in aluminum foil, to come to this fly-in... or will we be dragged to the property line and summarily propelled over the fence at pitchfork-point ?

All I can say in my defense is that an empty 172 can hold a LOT of beer... and a 10x10 EZ-up, and a cooler full of ice!

Sounds like a good combination Bill. I'll vote approval for a 172, especially a strait tail. I love that plane.
I haven't contacted the strip owner yet, but it has to be very close to my location if it is South of Turlock.
I am really curious to see where it is and find how many times I have flown over and not seen it.

The original post said South of town and "not on the charts" more than once... the SkyVector online chart shows a "Turlock Airpark" just south of town... but I can also imagine a whole lot of small private strips in the valley that aren't on the chart..

Now "small private grass strip" can mean a lush green paradise with Taylorcrafts gleaming and a light breeze blowing the smell of barbecued steaks. OR, it can also mean a de facto toxic waste dump with 75 smelly AgCats and Thrushes going in and out all day to where you can't hear yourself think

According to my official Taylorcraft Foundation dues letter you are the California Regional Representative, surely that position must grant you entry to all Taylorcraft events regardless of what type of flying conveyance you arrive in. I am looking forward to seeing you guys.

Victor Bravo maybe you should bring your Photo album from your Taylorcraft operations and escapeds over years, togther with the beer.
These two item should keep you reasnably safe from being brought to the fence.
It would if the flyinn was held in Canada, but I don't know about California.

You know danged well you will be welcome at ANY fly-in. But it is not MY show. Just call Matt and let him know you will be arriving in a converted pie plate. No one is going to shoot you down, unless you don't have beer.

I just checked it out on Google World per Matt's instructions as to location. Ahah, just up the road from here.
I'll have to buzz up there and drag the strip a few times.

I want to see Bill drag that straight-tail in on the prop and put it down stopped before the bump at 800 ft. Bet he can do it, with any wind at all.

Note to everyone that I will repeat again closer to the May date:
If you can get in before noon you will avoid the PM left crosswind that we get in this part of the valley. Sometimes it is nasty, but probably not as bad there as here, where we are in line with the pass from the coast.

Pie Plate !?! See here... I'll have you know this was converted from a roll of genuine Reynolds brand al-yoo-minnie-um food wrap.

The funny thing is, at my local airport on a familiar runway, just me on board, I can land the spam can in just about the same distance as the T-craft. Those big barn door flaps really spoil you!

Matt issued a "safe passage" approval for me to be there, contingent on beer.

As for the photos of my previous exploits, those have been buried in an undisclosed clandestine warehouse, next to the secret Nazi synthetic fuel formula, under the plans to the 100 MPG carburetor, and a short distance away from the missing 18 minutes from the Nixon tapes.

I've been praticing, admittedly on a 6,000 asphalt runway. I'm figuring on adding 200-300 feet for the real thing.
TO 700' Landing 1,000'.
We have IFR hashmarks so judging distance is not difficult. To date I've rolled out for my take off but will be using a short field technique later on. I try to use the 1,500' hashmark to be the end.
