  • Seat stuff on our '38 project

We're continuing to figure stuff out on our tcraft project.

One of the mysteries has been exactly how the seat goes in. We had some confusion about which end is the front(!), as well as how the the end without the grommets gets fastened on.

Glenn helped us out with some hints, so I think we've got the orientation right, but we'd still appreciate any hints or pictures about seat installation. Especially pix of seats installed or partially installed, without the cushions.

You can see pix of what we're doing currently at http://www.jrd.org/nate/11-07-09/

Here's a Service Bulletin on wrapping the front edge of the seat sling around the wooden slat.

The end with the grommet holes should go up to the cross tube that would be behind your shoulder blades and be laced around the tube only. The center fold line with the other parallel rows of grommets would lace around the lower cross tube where the seat bottom meets the seat back (do the center one first, ask me how I know). The end without grommets should be screwed in along the thin edge of the lath then rolled around the lath and bolted with four A.N. bolts to the fittings welded to the lower front cross tube, per the attached S.B. you've probably already found the tabs welded there for your kick plate to screw into also... h

Thanks Howard, that's quite helpful. It confirms that we did the right thing taking the wood piece off the front of the baggage area, and gives a clue on how to set up the front bar that you wrap the sling around.

      More news as it happens...
