  • Lowrance GPS

Lowrance is getting out of the avionics business.

I just called to get service on my AirMap 2000c and was told "sorry" we don't fix them anymore.

To quote an ancient radio and TV comedian...
"What a revolting development this is." God bless you William Bendix

My Lowrance 600 just went dead. Called the service center. They are doing warranty work only. Was told they are getting out of the aviation GPS to concentrate on marine products..

You will get the same response from Lightspeed headsets if you try to get an old one worked on. The told me they don't service them anymore. I bought Telex and am delighted with the performance.

Have you tried talking to a marina that repairs marine gps'?

        Re: Lowrance GPS

Probably just going to get a Garmin. A little pricey but they seem to be committed to aviation. I just want a good hand held. Don't want to clutter my L-2 with a big system. Don't know if data base updates for Lowrance will be available once it is widely known they are out of the aviation business.

I'm open to recommendations for other hand held GPS units.

I have a Garmin 296. I like it! It doesn't have the satellite weather that the 396 has, but i don't have to pay a monthly fee either.

I wonder if anyone will do the database updates for Lowrance?

                  Re: Lowrance GPS

For what its worth I called Lowrance today, he said the Jeppesen updates are still available on line and that there were no plans to stop that support.

He also said that they are willing to service Airmap 2000c BUT... they have run out of parts so they willing but not able at this time.

He said when they have parts they will do service & repair.

I love my 495. It was fantastic last year on my flight from Lakeland Fl to Anchorage. Terrain clearance and all. Good luck choosing

I practiced in visual conditions in Wyoming. The Terrain alert came up and showed me a path to follow to clear the mountains I was passing through. I flew through the middle of the pass and it showed me exactly in the middle of the yellow and away from the red. I was really impressed. It came up several times going up the Alcan and did the same. Luckily for me it was all in visual conditions and I didn't have to test it with low vis. I agree about being careful in believing everything the GPS is telling you.

I was talking to a Garmin dealer over the weekend. She says that the 296 and 396 are being discontinued. They will still be supported, for the time being, but they are out of stock so only the units in the feild are available. Updates will be available through Garmain and Jeppsen.

To all you Laowrance 600 or possibly the 1000 as well.
I have a 600 and when I called up different fetures like make water white I over loaded the memory, it frozze!
To get it started again you have to hardboot it, this info is NOT in the manual, but I visited Lowrance servicenter in Toronto to have it fixed as this was the second unit I got from Aircraft Spruce it happend to.
The fix is: To hardboot press and hold power and pages on the same time for 3 - 5 sec. Now you can reprogram in you personal preferences again.Aircraft spruce did give me a second unit no question asked and after I told them how to fix it.
My luck to by something going obselit.

My 600 is totally dead. Will not power up. Even tech support could not help. I really like the 600. Hate to see it go by the wayside.
