    Re: Newbie here

    Frank,

Very nice collection of pics. I spent over an hour snooping through them. I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind.

What did you use for the material for the floor board? In some of the pictures it looks like plywood. In others it looks like cardboard. Did you have a hard time fitting it over the cradles for the rudder pedals?

Also, in one picture (08-08-09) where it looks like you are welding the brackets that support the front edge of the seat onto the cross tube. Is that brazing rod you are using?

Did you have those Shinn wheels powder coated or polished? They sure look nice in those pictures. Looks like you guys did a fantastic restoration.

The floor is just cardboard. We were about to make up some thin plywood floorboards to fit, but another member of this forum has offered us some old ones as templates, so we're waiting on those.

Yeah, we tried welding those, but the material's just too thin, we finished by brazing them.

No, they were just cleaned and painted.

Thanks for the compliments. We're not done yet, got a bunch more on the fuselage to do, still gotta start on the wings. We'll post more progress as we go along.

I have to compliment you on your expansive library of photos. You have done an outstanding job of documenting the restoration process. It looks like you guys have a lot of fun doing this. I am eagerly looking forward to more pics.

          Re: Newbie here

          Thanks Richard.

The pix started somewhat informally, when we were partway into the P26 project. I started taking pix because I thought all the stuff we were doing was cool, and I wanted to remember it. It sort of took on a life of its own, which is probably good. Nowadays it seems to be serving as a sort of living history.

We do have a lot of fun. I've learned a huge amount by working with this crew.

The pix get updated approximately weekly, except when I get swamped with other stuff, in which case it sometimes takes me a few weeks to get them off the camera into the computer and up on the site. If you check back once in a while you should be able to see the progress we're making.

Keep those cards and letters coming...
