Anyone know of a reliable shop or individual who is works on Stromberg carburetors in the southern California area?

    Re: Carburetor problems

Yes I do, but I will have to ask him if he has the time to work on one of them... he's busy with other projects and has to be in the mood to do one of these carburetors. But it is definitely worth the trouble waiting for him to be willing, this person is a master with the Strombergs and his reputation for excellence is known far and wide. I'll see if I can put him in touch with you...

Thanks, Bill. I'm effectively grounded until I get it fixed.

The expert I asked about this is not able to do carburetors right now, but he recommended that you go to Aircraft Carburetor in Burbank. They will work on the Stromberg carburetors.

          Re: Carburetor problems

Thanks, Bill. It turns out that Aircraft Carburetor in Burbank has no technicians any more. They only sell parts.

However, they put me in touch with a nice fellow, Kevin Peterson, who has an FAA approved repair station for carburetors, called KPS Airmotive. Kevin was very helpful. My carburetor is now in tip top shape and is back on the airplane.

This guy is highly recommended. He has been working on aircraft carburetors for years and knows our NA-S3A1 carburetors like the back of his hand. He will work on any general aviation carburetor. If you happen to own a B-25 or a B-17, he works on carburetors for those huge radial engines, too. Call him. He will treat you well.

Great news, thanks for sharing it!

Now there is one more resource for these fine old machines. Can you share what he charges for an overhaul or service of one level or another?

              Re: Carburetor problems

Kevin charges $80 per hour of shop time. I don't know what an overhaul costs. Mine only needed cleaning and the needle lapped.

He does have parts for our carburetors in stock, both steel and the plastic needles with the appropriate seats, and all the gaskets. Says he gets about one of our carbs in a month on average.
