Finally an attorney pilot pointed out that if the airport was indeed causing a problem for the local homeowners, it might be necessary to notify the local board of realtors ....... making it more difficult to sell....

JACKPOT !!! Reducing their own property values by bad-mouthing the airport is precisely the "downside" for the big mouths I was talking about !

You might also point out that most GA airports are zoned commercial. If the airport closes, a developer could build warehouses, strip malls, etc.. This leads to lots of traffic and more noise than a few planes occasionally. It also brings a different class of people. Aviation people tend to be more responsible and considerate than the general population, at least in Texas.
