First of all remember"Any landing that you walk away from is a good landing!" Second of all, remember that good judgement comes from experience & experience comes from bad judgment!
YOU DID GOOD!!!!! The acft is metal and fabric and can be repaired or replaced. Worst case senerio- insurance pays you 13 large and you find another T-cart and start flying again.

Most of all, I'm glad no one was seriously hurt. That above all is the most important thing.

I know that if you decide to rebuild, there are plenty of good folks on this site that that will be more than happy to help!! Believe me,
it's not as bad as you may think and the next few days will allow you to sort out what happened and then you can put it all in perspective. After two crashes in RVN, I know whereof I speak.

Mike, I emailed you--maybe you didn't get it. Sorry about the mishap. What I emailed you was that my engine went kaput. But I have a good airframe, fresh annual, lots of nice things to say about it. Wondered if we could get together one way or another and end up with one of us having an airplane to fly. You probably have some sorting out to do with your plane, but if you're interested, let me know.

mishap, incident, accident?

Hi Mike I have not checked into the list since May 6th ; putting out too many fires I guess..... Real sorry to hear about this I have been following your progress for quite some time. I imagine your insurance company had you do the notification to the NTSB by now. I hope we can all learn from your mis fortune...
Now that all are settled down, I notice that you say the airplane " went off the runway" did you both jump out prior to that or can we add to the story as to what happened. Wind conditions, any thing break, power, throttle , input from the CFI, give us some more details if possible..... Then as to damage maybe send me photos, there can be a lot of hidden damage, negative loading and such..... Did the prop strike the ground, it must have if the gear went up, did the safety cables break, If you got the gear and struts you ahd to have torn the gear and strut fittings...... let us know and be very thankful the injuries are minor. I have had two crashes & walked away , but will feel the effects of the last one for the rest of my life.....thank you for sharing.

Sorry about your mishap, but at least you are both OK. These planes, as much as we may love them, are only wood, metal, and fabric. They can be fixed.

Like others have suggested, have a VERY competitant IA look her over completely before any decisions are made. If she if fixable for what the insurance will pay, then get her fixed. If not, take the money and put it towards another T-Craft. They are out there.

How right you are Capt. John. For everyones information, there
is a fly-in/swapmeet in Bowie, Tx. the weekend of June 4,5,6.
At the fly-in there are two 12-Ds for sale, (ones a project bird),
and also an L-2 for sale. There are several other aircraft for sale, the guy I bought my BC-65 from is flying his L-5 there to see if he can sell it. It seems that he owns too many slow planes, and he wants to buy a Commanche to fly cross country in.
