  • Nipples

Ok, everyone calm down, I'm asking about the ones that go on the tailwires. Has anyone found a source in the continental US of any kind that can be adapted to work with the stock 36 thread tail wires.
I'm getting the other tail wire parts cleaned up and painted, but the nipples are a bit of a challenge. Some stainless or plated ones would be nice>

I cannot say I have checked everywhere, but everywhere I have checked only have 8-32 threaded ones.

I know this will raise some eyebrows, but her goes. Those Nipples are from a UK Motorcycle or auto with wire wheels. How do I know this? On the factory drawing it shows Whitworth threads. Also if these were made just for the tail brace wires they would not have had the slot on the end. That slot is used to adjust the wires with the tire off the wheel. This also accounts for the strange threads on the wires.

The whitworth system of nuts and bolts were used in England prior to WW2. Some later cars used a limited amount.

I found a good set of original T-craft ones so I stopped looking for the correct ones. There are several suppliers in the US and UK that still build and repair wire wheels. They may have boxes of them or know wher to get them. Just google whire wheels and inquire. Do not say its for a airplane. Tell them you are restoreing a 1939 Bull Nose Morris.

Thank you laz. I'm familiar with Whitworth. Think 1961 Triumph Tr-3 roadster and a nice shiny brand new TR-4 I regretted selling when I took an offshore job.
As I remember the outside edge of the thread is shaped different with the Whitworth.

Guess I could just say "British Sports Car," right?
