  • Oil Pressure Gauge Repair

Does anyone know of a good place to get an oil temperature gauge repaired? I replaced it already but would like to repair my broken one. I called Century in Wichita but they wanted $225 for a new capillary and $35 to reface it! OUCH!

    Thanks in advance!

is that the type with temp and pressure in one gauge?

Last time I did one it was closer to $100 to $150 but that was 10 years ago too. The shop was in the southeast but I cant find any notes in my old email. At the time the idea was to pay $100 for the core, and $150 to have it fixed and repainted, and sell it for $300.

Luscombe uses the same gauge, so you might ask over at luscombe.org but perhaps different face color (I have seen them in black and Ivory white faces)

The dials may (often) be radioactive as they used radium in the paint so they would glow on those dark lonely cross country flights. Perhaps it also warms the cockpit a bit. Some shops that are concerned about EPA issues wont accept the instrument or at least the dial for rework and then some will so keep that in mind and don't give up if the first shop turns you down.

    Good luck!

            Suzy,

Three years ago, Airparts of Lock Haven (www.airpartsoflockhaven.com) overhauled and re-faced my oil temp gauge for $222. The going rate does seem to be more than $200...

In regards to radium (= radiactiv ) in your instruments, you will be stoped at the US border if you have one in the plane.
They come out with the geiger conters now day.
Several coments have been made in this forum about the subject before.
Some Canadain flyers have exchanged the offending instruments before crossing the border for this reason. check with AOPA for the present status and prossedures in regaurds to this subbject.
Homeland Securety is taking their job serius youknow!

FYI... Rudy's and John Wolf's charge $179 for a restored oil temp gauge. Turn around is about 10 days for either place. Looks like if you all have to get this done, these two are the best prices around!
