    Hello, My name is Rex Havis, I'm the new owner of a 1940 Taylorcraft BL-65, N26551, S/N 1893. The aircraft was completly disassembled when I purchase it. So I do need all of the help I can get. I am presently covering the horz. stablizer and need to understand the method used to install the nut on the attachment bolt, since the bolts go from the front to the rear and will be inside the cover. This does not appear to be an area where an inspection plate can be used. If any one knows the correct procedure, Please let me know.

    there was a small oval ; like a small inspection ring on the bottom to access this area. Someone will come up with a photo. Welcome to the tribe. I will give you original info on your ship , e-mail me direct sometime with N number & ser# again. bye Forrest

      Does anyone know if these rings are still available and were they may be purchesed along with the covers. Does anyone have a method to remove the pk screws that attaches the metal tubing at the tip of the ailerons to the aileron trailing edge materal. I have been unable to get them out and would prefer not to break them off.

        Hello Rex.In the past I have had the same problem.I had good results using a dremmel tool with a small cut-off wheel,and ground a slot in the screw head.If the screw driver wants to slip you can put a small amount of valve lapping compound on the tip and that will let the screwdriver grip bettter.The gromet issue,I made mine out of some thin accetate sheet and the ID as Iremember was aproximately1/2 in x3/4in and the OD aprox.1and 1/2 x1and3/4.After cementing these on put a fabric patch over these to reinforce their strength.Hope this helps.           Thanks Mike, your suggestion on how to remove the screws worked. Now all I need to do is figure out how to remove the tube without doing damage to rib that connects to the tube. It appears that all that is required is to straightion out the ends of the rib that are around the tube and then remove the tube. If this is not correct please let me know. Agan Thanks, Rex
