    Re: I have a question

We agree , only our records will support extending the four years , OR PERHAPS NOT!! Does any one recall the 1940 Taylorcraft back in 1940 that had the wings fail on a check ride do to the rib stiching being chewed through by mice ; they had also weakened the Spar . TOTALLY improper inspection during the periodic inspection . It was recntly in a QB magazine, I will try to find it. We have some serious problems out there with the Aging Aircraft fleet.

      Re: I have a question

Sometimes I stop in to see Denny Caruso who rebuilds Stearmans at the St. Mary's, Penna. airport. He has an immaculate shop and usually he has an almost ready to go Stearman sitting inside. (He does the 220 continental over haul himself also) He has shown me wings of 1942-43 Stearmans with fabric removed that looked perfect and they were....BUT some were totally shot and they were not original. It all depends on alot of things , care, left out in weather, maybe a tip caught a hangar taxiing, who knows! He will tell you, the only way to BE SURE is to take the fabric OFF! Denny also does some Super Cubs and so forth. As Forest said, MICE can raise hell with all parts of an airplane and quickly. Moth balls under the airplane can help get rid of them, and keeping the hangar very clean. I know from trusting people ,that alot of logs should be read to children at bedtime. They are fairy tales! I've been burned several times! Lower left spar on my Stearman had to be replaced. AI had passes it at sale time! Jake engine on my 195 was basically shot although airline captain owner had said "trust me, its in gooood shape!" Both were costly! Both sellers lied. JC
