  • The Silvar Dart 100 year Annaversery of flight in Canada!

Today they are doing a re-enactment of the flight what tok place 100 years ago with a replica some entusiastic builders have built here in Onataro.
It is Taking place in Beddeck, Nova Scotia maybe as I am wrighting this.
See my storie under places to fly and events.
Why am I wrighting here about it? I hade small part in the project.

    Len,
    totally cool dude!

I read all that stuff about the Silver Dart and it is really cool - except why does it take an astronaut to fly it? Glenn Curtiss was just a motorcycle bum and he had no difficulty flying his planes.

    Congratulations on this historic project.
    Best Regards,

It was Alex Bells # 3 plane and it was before any accurat aerodynamics was known. Consider a 10 feet long and 2 foot wide Biplane elevator up front.
= pitch sensetivety at 60 Mph. I was offerd to fly it but with 130 hr or so as POC, I gracefully said no thanks.
Bjarni Said: It was exciting to fly on the space shuttle and the Silver Dart gave him simmilar exsitment!
Motorcycle bum? HMM, do not insult the man, after all held the world land speed record at one time, not bad for just bumming around!
Bell was looking for a qulified "speed bum" and he found one to build his engines. Glen Curtis engine in the Silver Dart was an early aircraft engine and for-runner for the OX5.
