  • 800's vrs 850's

    hey all.

Has anyone used 850's for your tcraft. I land on the beach allot, and would like to know what the aircraft response is, both on and off the beach, to the larger tires? I am currently flying 800's and occasional get a hard jolt now and then on uneven beaches. Besides, the 850 will be free. (the lender went to 26 inch tundra tires)

any info/wisdom/good or bad exeriences is welcomed.

I've got 8.00's on mine. Never flew it with the 6.00 tires, but it seems to do well both on asphalt and turf with the 8.00s.

Dan , the larger tires have more air to cushion from objects such as larger rocks...baking potatoe size... or uneven jutted ground and their greater mass gives more bouyancy allowing you to roll over uneven areas or rocks rather than pushing into them.

The 850's are a pretty popular choice for general all around use. They are what I use and I have not used the 800's except on select areas.

Your statement I quoted above really answers your question on the need for the larger tires.

Dan When i lived in seward about 15 years ago. i had a set of 850s on my t-craft I prob, landed on every beach around that area. With 850s you haft to pick your spots. Hard dark sand is no problem try to stay away from the soft light stuff. As jim said in his post the smaller the tire the more that they tend to push through instead of on top of soft surfaces like sand and gravel. I also did a lot of sand bar stuff with them and there again as long as it was fairly hard packed gravel or sand it wasnt a problem. So as long as you have realy good judgement you shouldnt have to much problems with 850s. I have the 26'' goodyears now. and they work real well they are more forgiving and work real well in tundra and on sand bars. You can land on alot more uneven beaches. and you have more clearance at your axels for landing on tundra. They are very manageable on pavement to . I also have about 100hrs with a set of 30'' airstreaks. It is true bigger is better if you are going to be in the ruff stuff.
