  • Great Day in the East

Monday morning I flew to Lancaster, PA and back for my bi-annual transponder check. The day after a cold front passage. On the way back at 2700 (to get above the inversion and low level turbulence) the visibility was over 75 miles. The skylines of Baltimore, MD, Wilmington DE, and Philadelphia, PA were visible. Also all of the Delaware Bay to the Atlantic and Cape May, NJ. And all of the Upper Chesapeake to past the Bay Bridge. Outside of the traffic pattern at Lancaster, on both flights I only saw one other aircraft at our flight levels.

The Amish countryside is beautiful from the air. Now I'm going to make a new year's resolution to tour the lower 48 in my T-Craft. My understanding is that I can't do an international flight to get to AK operating as a sport pilot.

Re: Great Day in the East

Yesterday, I got up just for fun. The other guy was doing the aerial photos.I climbed up and saw downtown Cleveland, Pittsburg, steam coming out of two reactors, one up on Lake Erie the other across the Ohio River east of Pittsburg. i could see way over into PA , our family got off the boat and located around Lancaster for a while; Bartlebaugh, Duncan , Metzger, Dunmire and other good Pennsylvania Dutch names.
Then fifty years ago on Dec 30th, 1958 I had landed at the BIG airport Akron-Fulton (AKR) in a Vagabond with low freq receiver. Wagged my wings and all that stuff. Visited a bit, got my student log book signed and took off with a green light AND I wagged my ailerons too.
Did it again yesterday, no radio , the tower is gone!! Life is good.
    THANK YOU for the reminder.

I finally got the Taylorcraft back to the airport today, wings should be on by Mon or Tue. If it warms up some I will plan a day trip to OHIO.
