  • Carb options

I had to rebuild the carb on the Taylorcraft because it was leaking too much. I thought it was because of the needle but I think some of it was coming from the screen plug which was stripped. After cleaning up the steel needle and seating it I got it to slow down enough to work. I had to epoxy the plug to get it to stop leaking. Finally got it running but the new tack cable only lasted 5 min. Elbow gear had some hard grease that would work well at times then not at others, (I had it tested at teh speedo shop) So I am cleaning that out an will regrease it. Back to the carb...

I have another Stromberg carb off a C-85 that will work it has the mixture control, ( That I am told is worthless on that carb) I can just use the parts from the A65 carb. This will get me by for the time being.

What carbs are the group running? Is it worth it to find a Marvel-Schebler? The C-85 will eventually go into a Taylorcraft so I could just use that carb on this Taylorcraft and find a MS for the C-85 if it is a better carb. Or should I find 2 MS's and toss the Strombergs? If I use the Stromberg on the A65 should I switch over to the other needle and seat? I wanted to run a mixture of av and mogas.

    Check this on mixture control.
Strombergs will work fine, be patient, learn all you can, watch out for "common knowledge B.S.," find someone who is knowledgable to help, take everything you hear with a grain of salt at least. Info and manuals are available.

Thanks for that. I had seen parts of it before but not the begining. I will have to take the Carb off the Cougar and go through it to see what I have.
