  • A65-Fresh Major-Storage?

I just got the A65 back for our Cub project....fresh Major...real clean. Problem is....Project is a long way from done. What is the best way to store...right now it's hanging from a beam in the basement. Opinion?suggestions welcome....P.S. It's not pickled....yet. I should also note that the engine has just been assembled....minus mags and carb....has not yet been run...

    Dano,
Put a set of desiccant plugs into one set of spark plug holes. Plug clean rags into all other openings. Put a large plastic garbage bag over the whole engine. Put about a pound of silica gel into a pair of panty hose and then in the garbage bag with the engine. Seal the bag and put it out of the way. If you can find a clear bag to store it in that is all the better because you can look at the desiccant plugs every so often and see it they show moisture (turn color).

This will keep the moisture away from the engine. Check the plugs every so often and bake the silica gel dry every few months also.

    Disclaimers:
There are other ways to do this.
    Your mileage may vary.
Use only pantyhose labeled "For Engine Preservation Only"
Don't forget where you put the engine.
Keep in a cool dry place.
Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.
    Best Regards,

      DaneT:
I second Mark on his advise. I would suggest to use "Zip-Lock" bags to cover the exhaust and the air intake. Add the "preservation pantyhose" filled with about three hand full of silica gel with indicators into each of them [exh and air intake]. Then use "seal type Apollo 13 duct tape" to seal the bags around them. For the engine plastic cover, go to a mattres store and get their plastic transparent mattrers covers. You may want to invest in some preservation oil by "phillips", which runs about $ 22-25 a gallon [I bought mine from skyranch]. Check youe engine...it may have it in already. Once you change the oil to preservation oil, give a few turns to the engine to impregnate the moving parts.Per my IA, he recomends to add 4-5 Oz of MMO into each top plug hole before placing the dessicant plug. Just my 2 cents.

Results may vary and there's no guarantee implied
      Good luck.
