  • My bride solos!

Tribe, I want to welcome you to my partner, Judy. She reached a milestone this past September 27, 2008. She has soloed our 1941 and is now getting prepared to fly the cross country. She has never flown a tri-cycle gear aircraft. Her flight instructor, Don Stafford, says she has extremely good airspeed control for the landings, and is quite proud of her.

It has been a real joy for me to be the "line boy" and watch her progress. Shortly after these pictures were taken, we had a little set back. I was crushed in a machine at work, very serious, many broken bones. But I will recover, and hopefully next spring Judy can take the check ride. Judy has been nursing me back to health, I don't know what I would have done without her.

The take-off picture was one of her earlier lessons, the other ones are her and Don after the solo.

      Hi David,
Hope you get all better soon! You gotta be happy with a very nice airplane and a really neat bride for a flying partner. Now when you go on trips you can take turns flying and just have a great time----I'll have to show this to my wife so may be she will get interested in some lessons too.
Have a Marry Christmas! and get well soon--so you and Judy can go flying,

David, You can be very proud of Judy, which you are, for being a super pilot, and a great nurse, which will speed your recovery. Good Luck and Merry Christmas to you both....

                Re: My bride solos!

Hi everyone, just an update on Judy... she passed her written test this week and I am so happy for her. She was really stressing over that, now she can get back to the fun stuff when the weather breaks here in NE Ohio. At the place she took the test, one of the guys there paid her a nice complement when he found out she was learning in a 1941 Taylorcraft. "You really do know how to fly an airplane..."

I was able to fly the T-craft a few weeks ago for the first time since my accident in October. Thanks to Dad for propping the plane! Started back to my job also, kind of eerie looking at the machine that crushed me. Still a long way to go in the recovery process, but we are headed in the right direction.

Hope all is well with you and yours! (;f

Kick that machine in it's ass, "get back on the horse", and move on! Good for you and good for Judy!
