  • An idea to run with...

Is there a Taylorcraft tribe member that can turn this idea into something that will keep a small 7 or 8 amp, 12 volt battery charged up??? This link from the Supercub forum sounds interesting.

$35 for one of these devices. Check it out at http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a...-DEVICE/1.html

Just use a solar panel it will work just fine unless you are on a long cross country in IFR

According to two manufacturers of these devices the "hot pad" side of the unit should not exceed 200 deg. C. Above that the solder holding the individual elements in the package (lots of them) come apart. My EGT shows considerably more than 200C. You would have to "pipe" off some exhaust heat to the device, or some setup like that or you will get a failure very quickly.

I would mount it to the cowling with the fins exposed to the outside air and just pipe enough heat from the exhaust to meet requirements.

Or mount it on a cooler area of the engine cooling fins, like the top in front.

Personally I would like to put a small turbine powered mini-generator (with the supermagnets) in the exhaust stream. Bet that would work fine.
