Tail Number search

I am looking for information on the current status of My late uncle's Taylorcraft BC 12D. He bought it new in 1947? His name was Robert Lee Wilson, he lived at Okanogan, Washington at the time. According to his oldest son, he sold the plane to someone at Moses Lake, Washington. His son (my cousin) cannot remember the registration (tail) number. I would appreciate any information about this aircraft. It is the first plane I rode in and I can still remember the ride. Thank you for any assistance in my quest. On the off chance that your uncle's T-Craft is still at Moses Lake, I did a quick search of the FAA database. It doesn't look like there is a BC12-D currently registered to someone living within 15 miles of Moses Lake. My aircraft spent most of it's life in Kansas, then a couple of years in Florida, and the last 4 in Maryland -- so they can move around a bit. About when was the sale?

You might ask around the airports -- both your uncle's and Moses Lake if anyone remembers the ship. Moses lake has 2 airports:

Hi Leonard,
You might try contacting the FAA if no one knows where the plane is. I think the last time I requested records they charged $5.00. They furnish all the records in either paper or a CD and sometimes it is really interesting to find out where the plane has been and what has been done to it over the years. and once the SA office furnished the current information for my plane for free.

Is it possible that there might be tax records for that county that would indicate the tail number? Was there property taxes then; I was a little young to have any property, LOL.
Bet you can find some kind of record or pictures that will give you the tail number, bill of sale, stuff like that.

Hi Leonard, Does anyone in the family have his old logbooks? The # may be in there? Dumb question, but is it possible to see the # or part of it in the photo?
Kinda of fun doing detective work.

Hi Leonard,

This attachment is not what you are looking for but evidence that the FAA does have the records. Assuming this is your uncle. I have spent some time trying to research my grandfather's plane and pilot lisence. It is a lot of work and a challenge but worth it.

Also try AOPA as they may have informatoin in his file if he was a member. AOPA transferred my grandfathers AOPA membership # to me and I now use it.
