Here's the nose without the spring; I'm unfamiliar with guns so I don't know if this is unsafe or normal . Your experieince?

yeah, it's broke, or just a lousy forging job---but I don't think it will effect the operation of the gun

yup, broke. The half of a raised ring should be a full circle. For your purposes it should still work. I don't know if that was disclosed in the sales description but it should have been. The main action of the gun is the set coming out but since it "cycles" ie, out and in and out and in, etc. the half ring may cause abnormal wear in the barrel. Probably work for you as I said since you're not building a DC-3. If you have any issues you may want to grind off the rest of the ring. (I wouldn't do that unless warranted)
