Re: Taylorcraft History
David and Judy,
Thank you for providing the link to the great pictures. I really get a kick out of seeing old pictures like those, especially when I have a connection to them like my old airplane.
I have a couple of questions for Forrest, or anyone else who may know. There is a picture of the factory that shows a huge two story office building, a large hanger with an arched roof, and two smoke stacks. Where was all of that, surely not there at Barber Airport?
Also there is a photo #23, that shows a two toned paint job like no other I have ever seen. Has anyone seen, or have better pictures of this paint layout? It has a light color on the top surface of the fuselage that spreads out when it gets to the tail feathers. It comes to a point at about half the chord of the horizontal stabilizer. The N number in the picture is NC20311.
I have always thought about painting my project plane solid red, but have been concerned about the affects of having such a dark color on the top where the UV rays could cause premature damage. This paint scheme would allow a lighter color on top and also conform to originality.
Really cool pictures! Check it out if you haven't already.
Going to the BIG fly-in down in McMinnville (Spruce Goose) tommorrow. It is put on by the Northwest Antique Airplane Club. Check it out at nwaac.org.Richard Pearson

Re: Taylorcraft History
Richard,
The factory is in Alliance, not too far from Forrest's strip. Alot of it is still there and if you go to the reunion there is a tour. I have pictures of some of the inside of the factory and hangar that is still present. I think there may be some pictures from this year. Look in the pictures under Taylorcraft Foundation Photo Gallery and then click on Taylorcraft Owners and Their Airplanes. Mine, 2007, are on page 8 and the 2008 reunion is on page 9. Hope this helps.Cheers,
Marty

Re: Taylorcraft History
I also have some posted under my name on page 8. Can post more if need me. The factory is only a mile or two from Barber Field. Forrest's dad moved there after getting a job. It was quite an interesting tour. I have flown over the place countless times, but never really realized how big it was!

Re: Taylorcraft History
Hi Richard, glad you liked the Rodman Library site. Here is a link to Jon Timlins site which has some photos of the old factory also. Look under Reunions Alliance 2007. When the leaves start to turn in this area I will try to get a nice shot from the air and post it. You can still see where the two crossing runways used to be.
P.S. to Cap'n Jon - Thank you so much for all the nice pictures of our '41 you posted. Enjoyed our visit at Sun-N-Fun, hope all is well.
